Delivering Award Winning Care: Lehigh Valley Hospital–Pocono Nationally Recognized by Newsweek as Best Maternity Care Hospital
Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Pocono – the Pocono region’s only hospital for labor and delivery care – was named to Newsweek’s 2020 list of Best Maternity Care Hospitals. The distinction recognizes facilities that have excelled in providing care to mothers, newborns and their families, as verified by the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Best Maternity Care Hospitals is part of Newsweek, powered by data from The Leapfrog Group.
“LVH–Pocono is thrilled to have scored better than target in all five categories measured by the Leapfrog Group for maternity care,” says Elizabeth Wise, President, LVH–Pocono. “Our dedicated staff serves as a partner for the more than 1,000 babies they help to deliver each year, their mothers and families who entrust us with their care. This recognition shows their dedication to delivering the high-quality care our community expects and deserves.”
“Best Maternity Care Hospitals are an elite group of hospitals from across the country,” says Nancy Cooper, Editor in Chief of Newsweek. “These facilities are to be commended for the care they provide to women and families, and for giving babies a strong start to life. Particularly in these uncertain times, we are honored to share this list of top-ranked facilities with Newsweek’s readership.”
Hospitals named as a Best Maternity Care Hospital have fully met The Leapfrog Group’s standards for maternity care on evidence-based, nationally standardized metrics. The tough standards have been established by Leapfrog’s national expert panel. This includes lower rates of early elective delivery, NTSV C-section (C-section among first-time mothers), and episiotomy, as well as compliance with process measures including newborn bilirubin screening prior to discharge and blood clot prevention techniques for mothers delivering via C-section. “We are honored to be selected for Newsweek’s 2020 list of Best Maternity Care Hospitals. This recognition validates our maternal-child nurses’ and providers’ commitment to professional practice standards that drive excellence in patient care and quality outcomes for every mother and child cared for in our hospital,” says Maryann Cortese-Rubino, Vice President, Patient Care Services at LVH–Pocono.
