Look Inside LVH-Hazleton’s New, Expanded Emergency Department

BY JENN FISHER

While no one wants to have a medical emergency, there’s peace of mind knowing that a team of emergency medicine providers is ready to care for you when you need them most. At Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Hazleton, that care is now enhanced by a multimillion-dollar expansion of the emergency department and introduction of more technology and treatment areas for your care and convenience.

New features

The all-new emergency department (ED) at LVH–Hazleton is more than double its original size, now an expansive 18,750 square feet. The new ED features:

  • Private treatment rooms with glass door enclosures to ensure privacy
  • Triage room for rapid assessment of patients’ conditions
  • Super track process for urgent care conditions
  • Dedicated trauma room
  • Women’s specialty room
  • Consultation room for patients’ families to meet privately with doctors, family, clergy, etc.
  • Easier access for ambulance arrivals
  • Secure five-bed behavioral health unit

Care begins at the front door

At the ED registration area, a nurse will assess patients, take vital signs, and make a decision about where you need care – an urgent care area for less severe emergencies or a triage room for greater levels of emergency care. More than 30 beds are available for treatment, an increase from the original 18-bed space.

If you need advanced imaging, you will benefit from a newly installed, state-of-the-art 128-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner. As a certified primary stroke center, you will receive the best level of assessment and care.

Experienced, compassionate, emergency care

All patient care is documented in the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system utilized at all Lehigh Valley Health Network hospitals. This helps ensure that if you are taking prescription medication, the health care team will be alerted to any potential conflicts in medication or treatment.

Should you need ambulance transport for emergency care, request LVH–Hazleton. You will benefit from an experienced team that has earned stroke and heart failure achievement awards and has earned repeat “A” grades from Leapfrog Group, a patient safety ratings organization.
