LVHN and Surgeons Recognized as Center for Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

If you need gynecologic surgery for a wide spectrum of conditions including urologic problems or for gynecologic cancer conditions, you may be considering the following questions:

  • How long will I be laid up?
  • Will this surgery correct my problem?
  • Are you the right person for the job?

As you consider your options, you may review the credentials and certifications of different surgeons. Among the team of minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), eight recently earned recognition from the Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology™ (COEMIG™) by the AAGL (Advancing Minimally Invasive Gynecology Worldwide). The AAGL is the leading worldwide association promoting minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

“We have a broad spectrum of surgeons who are now COEMIG certified, from generalists OB/GYN to gynecologic oncologists to urogynecologists,” says LVHN obstetrician/gynecologist Joseph DeFulvio, DO, of LVPG-Obstetrics and Gynecology. “It’s a very comprehensive group of people who have developed outstanding skills in minimally invasive surgery.”

In addition, all three LVHN hospital locations also earned COEMIG designation, reflecting a network-wide commitment to provide state of the art, minimally invasive surgical care to gynecology patients, and continuously improve patient safety.

“Our core staff at each location is also excellent, and they provide support to ensure each patient’s case is handled consistently at our high standards,” DeFulvio says. “So you will get the same excellent care wherever you receive care in our health network.”
