A series of chalked messages appeared on sidewalks leading to Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Schuylkill, catching the attention – and earning the appreciation – of LVH–Schuylkill health care employees. Messages like: “Thanks,” “Heroes Entrance,” “Be Safe” and “You are Amazing,” are just some of the colorful notes along the sidewalks.

The artists, Madeline Strauss, 15, and her brother Logan, 11, are the children of Amy Strauss, pediatric nurse practitioner at LVH–Schuylkill’s Family Birth and Newborn Center. “I am so proud of them,” says Amy. “Because I work in health care here at LVHN, as do my sister-in-law and my aunt, plus my sister and mother-in-law at other health care facilities, the kids wanted to thank everyone at our hospital for what they are doing.” In addition to LVH–Schuylkill, the children also left their chalk art at an area nursing home, a local independent physician’s office. The duo is now planning other artistic visits as a way to thank others.

When pictures of the chalking began circulating through social media, colleagues and other others commented how heart-warming the messages are and the positive impact they are making.

In addition to the sidewalk chalk art, the Strauss children also made “Thank You” posters which are posted in the LVH–Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street cafeteria.
