Vote for Your Favorite Art From Elementary School Students
BY ERIN ALDERFER
With schools operating under a mix of online and in-person classrooms, Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital, Lehigh Valley ArtSpark and Kellyn Foundation have found ways to bring engaging interactive learning to students wherever they are through Community Canvas.
Community Canvas gives young artists at 15 area elementary schools a chance to display their passion for healthy living and their talent for art. Students in third, fourth and fifth grade are learning about healthy eating habits, exercise and all-around wellness through classroom sessions with Kellyn Foundation and an ArtSpark immersive online experience that combines discovery, game play and trivia.
Following the ArtSpark experience, names are randomly selected for an art competition. While the learning has been virtual, the art is very real. Students create the art at home using just the art supplies provided. They have 45 minutes to create something based on what they have learned about healthy living.
Voting takes place online. Anyone can vote – no connection to a school or artist is necessary. The two students from each school with the most votes will move on to the grand finale in June. All remaining artwork will be entered into a contest for wildcard slots.
Voting is open April 12 at noon through April 15 at 11 p.m. for art created by students from these schools:
Winners will be announced Friday, April 16 at noon.
Check back throughout the spring to vote in additional school competitions and the grand finale.
